How Comfy Are Your Beds?
The answer is to add a “pillowtop” overlay. This is completely separate to the mattress, with elastic straps or an elasticated skirt that will allow you to remove it to air, clean or “fluff” it up. The beauty is that you will still have the advantage of a commercial bed that will last the distance, but you will be providing a really comfortable mattress. It also means that you won’t have the expensive price tag attached to a pillowtop mattress.
There are two types of pillowtop overlay available. At the top end is an overlay with goose feather & down fill. The Fairydown overlay is 10cm deep consisting of two layers of feather & down - the top layer is 85% goose down and 15% goose feather – this is the luxurious layer that you sink into, the bottom layer is 5% goose down and 95% goose feather – this is the support layer. It has corner elastic straps to hold it in place. “This is the topper of choice for top lodges, B&Bs and hotels, and we have heard many guests rave about the wonderful night’s sleep they have had. We personally have a Fairydown topper on our bed and I find it really hard to get out of bed in the morning, it’s just so comfortable,” says Nadine Barnes of Commercial Supplies.
The alternative topper is filled with balled polyester creating a “bounce back” supportive layer, adding softness and comfort to a firm mattress. Easy to maintain, safe for those with allergies and with a fully fitted stretch skirt, this type of overlay is well priced for the middle market accommodation sector plus it is ideal for motorhomes, boats etc where feathers might not be a practical choice.
