The answer is to add a “pillowtop” overlay. This is completely separate to the mattress, with elastic straps or an elasticated skirt that will allow you to remove it to air, clean or “fluff” it up. The beauty is that you will still have the advantage of a commercial bed that will last the distance, but you will be providing a really comfortable mattress. It also means that you won’t have the expensive price tag attached to a pillowtop mattress.

There are two types of pillowtop overlay available. At the top end is an overlay with feather & down fill such as the NZ Made Super Topper. It will recapture the feeling of sleeping on “Grandmas’ Featherbed”. The alternative topper is filled with balled polyester creating a “bounce back” supportive layer, adding softness and comfort to a firm mattress. Easy to maintain, safe for those with allergies and with a fully fitted stretch skirt, this type of overlay is well priced for the middle market accommodation sector plus it is ideal for motorhomes, boats etc where feathers might not be a practical choice.
